Labradors at Easter

Labradors at Easter

Most of us look forward to the long Easter weekend – it’s been a while since we had a Bank Holiday break! So, whatever you are planning to do, have a great time.

However, please take time to read the following about Easter treats that can be fatal to dogs. Just like Christmas, there are various foods that your dog could die from ingesting. You are always going to get a person who says that my dog eats human chocolate or dried fruit and is fine, but do you really want to take that risk? Check out the following and as always, if you are unsure about anything, contact your vet immediately.

  • Chocolate Easter eggs – chocolate contains theobromine which is toxic to dogs.
  • Hot Cross Buns – lovely, but they contain dried fruit; raisins, sultanas and currents are all toxic to dogs and they can suffer kidney failure if ingested which may be fatal to them.

Also, if you are out and about enjoying the (hopefully) good Spring weather, think about nature around you. Did you know that certain bulbs and flowers can be poisonous to your pet? For example, tulips and daffodils look gorgeous, but depending on what your dog has eaten they can cause various problems.

There are so many other things that can be bad for your pet, too many to go into here. So, if in doubt about anything, contact your vet – it is far better to ask the question than leave it until symptoms appear when it could be too late for your beloved pet.
